FAQ

What does KTW-A mean?

KTW stands for plastics in drinking water.
These are the European assessment criteria that determine which plastics are suitable for contact with drinking water.

KTW-A means that the hose is suitable for constant contact with drinking water and meets the highest standards of hygiene and material purity.

The material used meets the strictest requirements for contact with drinking water and there is no relevant release of harmful substances (e.g., plasticizers, odors, and flavors).

Incidentally, in 2021, the old KTW-A regulation was replaced by the KTW assessment basis (KTW-BWGL). Now, the term used is UBA-compliant according to KTW-BWGL. Nevertheless, the KTW-A label is still frequently used in practice.

Are there also hose reels made of painted steel that are suitable for drinking water applications?
No, this has to do with hygiene and drinking water purity. Stainless steel is inert; it does not release any substances into the water. In addition, stainless steel is corrosion-resistant and has a smooth surface, which keeps the system hygienic. Stainless steel also easily meets the requirements of the Drinking Water Ordinance.

A (more cost-effective) alternative to hose reels made entirely of stainless steel is the OSK series hose reel made of ABS plastic and stainless steel. All parts that come into contact with water are made of stainless steel, which is why they can also be used for drinking water applications.
